Rahul Sport Meet
With Dhanraj Pillai
In a sporting endeavour by the Rahul Group of Schools and Colleges, the 7th thriving Rahul Meet 2007-2008 was held at 'Mother Mary's Play Ground, Bhayandar-E. An eight-day spirited sports meet was flagged off by chief guest Padmashri Dhanraj Pillai, former Indian hockey captain on December 1 in the presence of his ardent fans.
The Mira-Bhayandar quarter participating schools under the Rahul Group were Queen Mary's High School, Mira Road along with Mother Mary's English High School, Father Joseph's English High School, Rahul Vidya Nike-tan Hindi High School, Rahul English High School and Mother Mary's English High School. all from the Bhayandar-E vicinity The best inter-house school teams with participants from class III to IX were assembled on the grounds for an inter-school competition.
Rana Tiwari, former national kabbadi player; Satish Mishra, of Navbharat Times and the representatives of the Rahul Group of Schools and Colleges Lallan Tiwari, chairman and Rahul Tiwari, secretary were the guests of hon¬our for the evening.
The students performed a grand saluting parade for the chief guest followed by felicitation, flag hoisting and lighting of the torch, which was taken for a run by the invitees, administration and physical training teachers of the schools. The crowd cheered at this sight while the meet was declared open. Bharti Salian, principal of Father Joseph's English High School briefed about the contribu¬tions by Rahul Group in respect of education as well as welfare of the society.
All the while, Dhanraj Pillai was seen appreciating the passionate panache displayed by the schools. He walked down the dais and appealed to the audience to applaud for the talented children so that they feel encouraged to do much better in life. The eight-day union included sports events like athletic, march past, pyramid, shot-put, kho-kho, kabbadi, carrom, chess, javelin and discuss throw together with cultural events like extempore, quiz. debate, folk dance, singing, mehendi.
Proficient judges and referee, adjudged the activities. The Indian hock ey sports ambassador was overwhelmed to witness the fondness for sports ... among the youth while he was honoured with a hockey stick as a token of gratitude by the chairman. Especially after the blockbuster movie `Chak De India', now the girl fraternity also seems to sport the penchant and to this he comments, "It was a very constructive step taken by the film industry to endorse the significance of our national sport in today's generation. For the past 16 years of my career, I have been representing India in hockey but what this two-hour movie has done across the horizon is incredible." He further adds, "Not only hockey but every other sport takes the lead in its own ways. Espouse the sports atmosphere in and around you."Queen Mary's High School, Mira Road, bagged the overall champions' trophy.
